Beginning of summer brings new hope and joy for a proximity to normalcy this covid times. The days are warmer and brighter and brings every reason to go out and have a memorable time.
With covid still around what could be a great option to try out some contactless outdoor photography! To begin there are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Weather- canadian prairies are known for unpredictable weather patter and strong winds. This can be beyond uncomfortable for the participants, photographer and a nightmare for post processing work. Selecting a day with calmer wind, without precipitation not only make the outdoor session fun but also keeps it less cumbersome. There is least requirement for touchups or getting into close contact with participants.
2. Sunny or partly cloudy or cloudy day- I try to use all three depending on the season, type of photography session, age group of participants etc. Sunny skies work great for me early mornings and evenings. Partly cloudy skies are excellent backgrounds and I will use them as much as possible. Cloudy skies are best to bring out the subtleties of bright colors.
3. Location- Family sessions with younger kids works best for me when a location is quieter compared to a busy park or public places. Children gets easily distracted at busy places and I find are a lot harder to work with when the session is located in a busy locale. Quieter locations are great for kids to run around and therefore get candid shots from a distance.
4. Scape with flowers/greens/beautiful sky- over the years I have learnt to work what is available from mother nature. Especially during pandemic times choices are already limited to begin with.
Keeping in mind the safe distancing with masks on even outdoors, limiting close contact to minimum are the new normal. Not only that makes me feel safe, also keeps the photo clients safe as well.
