For this one year old little man I had a fun filled birthday photoshoot in studio. As a baby photographer I always love to see the smiling faces when I am behind the camera.
The first 30 minutes is very important when catering a one year old for a photo session. That's when they are easy to position on props and still hold the attention at best.
It is easier to have a session for a happy smiling baby however when the baby arrive at the studio either tired or who is extra sensitive to different environment other than their home there are some tricks I often imply to keep the session going well and keeping the parents relaxed during the session time.
Tips for a fun session:
- Always keep a few rattle and small toys on hand that make sound.
- Be ready to hop skip and jump even carrying the camera to get the baby attention or smile.
- Include the parents or other participants to work with you as a team.
- To bring back the baby back near the prop or position correctly (at this age baby love to crawl out of the frame of the camera).
- One person near baby but out of the camera frame to hold the baby just in case he/she looses balance while standing or taking the steps walking towards the camera.
- One person at the back of the photographer is usually a good idea to attract baby`s attention and look towards the camera.
Lighting is very crucial not only to illuminate the birthday decors in the background but also to keep the baby properly in focus. My go to lens to use during this kind of session in studio is 35mm prime lens.
Photos came out beautiful from this session. Parents absolutely loved the pictures.
